The 15 musicians included range from jazz legends like Duke, Diz, and Pres to some players who remain much lesser-known today. Illustrated by a dramatically lit photograph of musical instruments, it's definitely not a exhaustive catalog of every famous jazz nickname (notably absent are William James Basie and Charles Parker, Jr,, for example), but it's a very nice sampling nonetheless.

And best of all is the accompanying copy, which reads as follows:
"It’s a down scene, man. You and your chick fall by and dig the wild sounds. Those cats on the stand are really makin’ it. Baby, everybody’s smokin’, you know? Assembled are a whole raft of well-known jazz wailers from all the going schools — traditional, swing, cool, etc. — and all you have to do is match up their nicknames with their square handles. If you’re truly hip you’ll have no trouble fielding all 15; if you bring down as many as 12, you can still count yourself a daddy-o; anything under 10, however, rates you as a cube from Dragsville."

It's like a bona fide time capsule of 1957 copywriting, and we chuckle every time we read it. A bit of a departure from SecondTakeJazzArt's usual offerings, but we simply couldn't resist turning it into a fun poster for our customers. We hope you find it as delightful as we do!

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0636/4410/6918/files/CrazyCatsJazzQuiz-Playboy-1957-07_18x24_v01-BLACK-mockupB-1x1.jpg?v=1790987239
