Like the famous \"Ambassador Satch\" concerts taped later that year, \"At the Crescendo\" is remarkable in how it fully captures the energy and magic of Armstrong and his crew. \"Ol Satchmo and the Entire Company\" were in an especially relaxed mood at the Crescendo, having fun, taking their time, and playing beautifully with swing and verve.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThere's always been a faction of detractors who dismiss the whole oeuvre of Pops and the All Stars as \"the same old music, played the same old way,\" but I'd argue that \"At the Crescendo\" is the revelation that proves them all wrong. There's a freshness, a sizzle, a zinging electricity that defiantly surges through each track, whether you've heard the repertoire 100 times before or not. It's simply great music, played well.
